Youth Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Substance-Free Fun at 6th Annual SRSLY 3×3 Basketball Tournament

Teams hoped the luck of the Irish was on their side at SRSLY’s 6th Annual 3×3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 16 at Stockbridge Jr/Sr High School. Many teams donned green uniforms to participate in the annual event, which demonstrates how youth can have fun without substances.

Youth in grades 4-12 participated in the 17-team tournament.

Congratulations to the 2019 winners in each division!

  • 4th-5th Grade Girls: Shamrock Shooters
  • 4th-5th Grade Boys: I Like Turtles
  • 6th Grade Boys: Ballerz
  • 7th-8th Grade Boys: The Answers
  • High School Boys: Nobody’s
  • 3-Point Contest Winner: Tyler Smith

The tournament kicked off with the singing of the national anthem by Stockbridge 7th grade choir students Josie Beautler, Jenna Yelle, Rachel Warrens, and Troy Steenbeke.

Then the competition began with youth taking to the courts in the double-elimination tournament. Nearly 70 youth participated, dressed in their homemade uniforms, and gave it their all in the 12-minute, half-court games.

More than 100 spectators filled the bleachers to cheer on their family and friends. Tournament attendees also voted the Pink Panthers as the team with the best name, and for Lucky Charms as the best dressed team.

“We are thankful to the community for coming together to support our youth and making this event a success each year,” said Emily Stewart, SRSLY Stockbridge coalition director.

SRSLY would like to thank its volunteers, sponsors, Stockbridge Community Schools, and the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation for making the tournament possible. Sponsors for the tournament included Adiska Family Dental, Simply You ~ Salon, Mainstreet Printing, Country Petals, Classic Embroidery, and Gregory Mercantile Inn.

Special thanks to Brian Johnson and Jacob Robidou for refereeing all 25 games!
